About
Our Methods Basic
Principles of Training In
order to truly enjoy living with our faithful canine friends in today's world
of crowded cities, suburbs and apartment dwellings, it is imperative for our canine
friends to be well socialized and receive proper training which will enable them
to be good citizens and companions. Dogs that bark and lunge when encountering
people or other dogs are not looked upon favorably. They are often "mislabeled"
as aggressive when most often they are just "misbehaving". A
Well Trained Dog is a Joy to Live With and to Know. The
method standard with our school is "positive motivational
training " This method of training relies on rewards and
encouragement such as food, praise and even a favorite toy. Rewarding
your dog for things he or she does well rather than punishing for errors, is psychologically
more rewarding not only for the dog, but also for the owner\trainer. This
type of training allows your dog to work WITH you and FOR you because
he WANTS to, as opposed to working for you because he is afraid.
Accent the positive
rather than the negative! With
both the dog and owner working on a positive note, there is less stress
and more enjoyment during the training sessions. We
believe that the best and most enduring type of training is "positive
motivational training". We
believe that the "whole family" should be involved with the education
of their canine companion. Children are most welcome in the classes and a
special hour is put aside for puppies that bring their "little companions"
Dogs need to under the
"pack order" or "social order" so they can become one with
their "human family" and also to respect their family. Our
aim is to provide a happy working environment for you and your dog to learn in.
This in turn will produce a better working dog and handler team. Most Dogs Respond to Violence
with Violence.
Dogs may become stressed and afraid and can respond defensively or become vicious
when trained negatively using punishment such as switches or chains thrown at
or near them. Dogs are not born vicious: they are made that way by improper
training methods. When you begin training your puppy, be PATIENT and
be CONSISTENT. Most puppies want to please you and they try hard to do
just that. Although it often takes time before you reach your goal with your pup,
REMEMBER IT IS WELL WORTH THE EFFORT!
TAKE THE TIME THAT IT TAKES SO THAT IT TAKES LESS TIME
