Anthea started in K9101 classes
several years ago with her rottweiller puppy "Justice"who has since
gone over the "Rainbow Bridge" When
looking for another dog to fill the void left by Justice, Anthea fell in love
with the Australian Shepherd and purchased a dog from Performance Plus Australian
Shepherds (Bev Hurst) She began once again to train with a new kind of dog, one
with very high drive. Training
a "high Drive" dog can be a challenge but Anthea has risen to this challenge
as you can see by the titles on her dogs to date. "Hero"
introduced Anthea to the world of Agility, Herding, Disc Dog and Rally O.
"Hero" has earned titles in Herding and Rally O and has earned qualifying
scores in CKC and AAC agility. Into the picture came "Breeze" because
who can own just one Aussie. Breeze earned her Canine Good Neighbour/Citizen
at 6 months of age and is in training for herding, agility, disc dog. Breeze
competed in the K9Kup Challenge this year with Hilltop K9 Agility club. Hilltop
Placed first overall at the KKup Challenge. Before dogs took over her life
Anthea was an active in the horse world, training and riding her own horses in
competitions. Anthea
has been working with her dogs in the K9101 classes for almost 4 years. She
completed the Assistant Trainers course thru K9101 with the goal of opening her
own training center in St. Pascal (just outside Rockland)

VIOLA
LARKIN My name is Viola
Larkin; I started training my very first dog about 15 years ago.
All of my dogs have been rescue dogs and I can
empathize with our students the challenges of training and rehabilitating they
face when adopting a rescue. If better manners were taught to our dog, then less
pets would be given up to shelters. In
2004 I started to puppy raise for Canines with a Cause (www.canineswithacause.org).
This Ottawa based Assistance Dog training program helps individuals with disabilities
that wish to gain independence through the assistance of a specially trained Assistance
Dog. The dogs are then chosen based on the skills needed to assist them in their
specific needs. I quickly discovered
that dog training was my passion. I just love the minute the lights go on
and the dog offers me the behavior I have been looking for. I knew this was my
calling. I moved on to the position of puppy raiser supervisor and assistant trainer
in 2006. I started training with Bev in 2007, one of the best trainers in the
Ottawa area, which has given me great insight about the importance of voluntary
behavior, positive reinforcement, behavior management and Dog psychology.
My new gained knowledge has helped me give back
to the Community with the hopes of being a better Service Dog trainer and Professional
Dog trainer in general. I am
very privileged to work alongside Bev in the classroom and help with educating
her students in the hopes to create a long lasting bond between handler and dog.
I live in the Ottawa area with
my husband, two beautiful children and my little dog Katie and my new addition
BOOMER, german shepherd.. Viola
is not currently competing with her dog Katie but has worked with Katie in Rally,
Agility and Obedience Levels. Katie is a rescue dog and with Viola's help
is becoming an outgoing and confident dog. Bommer her new addition, is currently
in training for competition.
